On September 12th, Mike Swadling from the National Trust spoke to Outlet about Clandon Park – The Fire and the future. Everyone present had visited Clandon prior to the fire and many had visited when tours had been arranged to view the devastation of the fire. All wanted to know what the future held for Clandon now as the Shrouded scaffolding reminds everyone when driving down the A245 of the fire that occurred.
Mike gave a very informative talk which also taught that although the fire was devastating, 'silver linings' have come from it. It has now been possible for experts and historians to learn precisely how Georgian houses were built – this knowledge could only be guessed before as manuals do not exist. Other Georgian houses can now be better preserved and protected based on this information. We were also informed of the new plans for Clandon Park. Clandon Park does have a future and it is exciting! I would advise you to go on a tour of Clandon to find out more!
