On Thursday 12th March, a coffee morning was held to raise funds for the Guildford Talking Newspaper. This is a local charity whose aim is to deliver the 'written word in an audible format' to blind and visually impaired residents living in the Guildford area. It has been running since 1976 and is run entirely by volunteers. They record the news from the Surrey Advertiser and the Guildford Dragon which is then delivered to the residents.
It is recorded onto memory sticks which can be played on a 'boom box' – which operates similar to a cassette player with the ability to forward, rewind , pause and stop. Brian and Mike (Charity Representatives) attended the coffee morning and demonstrated the equipment and how easy it was to use.
Delicious cakes (as always) arrived and there was a lot of chat! The event raised £181.50 for the charity.
