Farewell Circuit Service

On Sunday 19th July, the Wey Valley Circuit gathered to give a truly memorable send-off to Rev. George Quarm and his wife, Ama, after five brilliant years serving the Circuit. And there was plenty to celebrate – Uncle George (as he liked to be called) had just been awarded his Doctorate from the University of Texas, and Ama was marking her retirement from the NHS. The church was absolutely packed, with friends and well-wishers filling every available space – it was so full that even the organist had to share her seat!

The service opened with an abridged performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah, sung by the newly formed Circuit Choir. George had long hoped to hear it performed live, but the Merrow choir had always been a little too small to take it on – so his surprise when it rang out was genuinely wonderful to see. With such a full house, the hymn singing that followed was nothing short of spectacular.

After the service, the celebrations carried on with refreshments – and then the party really got going. The hall looked fantastic, a DJ kept everyone dancing, and there was no shortage of food. George and Ama couldn't have had a better send-off.

George will be beginning his new ministry at Trinity Methodist Church in Basildon, Essex in September 2026. We wish both George and Ama all the very best for everything that lies ahead.
