On 6th August, a party was held at Merrow to celebrate the 100th birthday of Frank – Merrow Methodists' longest serving Church member.
Frank arrived in his Naval regalia and medals which reflected his service during the Second World War supporting the Atlantic convoys. The Hall soon filled up with his family and friends all wanting to congratulate him on reaching 100. The ages ranged from 4 months to 100!
Our minister, George, opened the event before passing over to our brother minister from Burpham Church, Rev. James Hanson. He had got to know Frank and the family when he led a short internment service for Frank's wife, Cynthia's ashes at his Church. He is now a friend of the family.
We were then able to tuck into the buffet – and what a buffet it was! The Cornish Pasties (flown in specially from Cornwall) disappeared very quickly, the trifles were extremely tasty and the ginger beer (non-alcoholic of course!) brought back memories of childhood.
It was an event which will be remembered for a very long time – where it has been an honour to be able to share with a much loved member of Merrow.
